The VAP technology is a patented density gradient ultracentrifugation which directly measures the cholesterol content of all lipids, components, and subclasses. The VAP Test is the first cholesterol profile to comply with updated National Cholesterol Education Program ATP III recommendations calling for more-accurate, direct low-density lipoprotein (LDL) measurement which is unaffected by triglycerides. Routine cholesterol tests—based on 30-year-old technology—account for only about 50 percent of the predictability in heart disease risk in the U.S. population. In addition, as little as 25 percent of premature heart disease is attributed solely to elevated LDL.1 As a result, many patients at risk often go undetected—or have their risk misclassified—when routine cholesterol tests are used.
